Since motorhome dashboard A/C units are ineffective, compared to the family car, many of us travel with our diesel fuel powered generators while we're traveling, so we can use our rooftop or basement A/C units. The question is: is there a danger in leaving our diesel engine generators running while refueling? After all, there's no ignition components. We do shut down our diesel engines. Dick Campagna GasJock Rookie Canada 1 Posts Posted - 05/27/2004 : 23:16:40 In our world, British Columbia, the Fire Code states that a diesel engine must be off when refueling if you are not 18 feet from a Class 1 fuel dispenser [and grade of gasoline]. Why take a chance on igniting those vapors? Mike Dick Campagna Rookie USA 3 Posts Posted - 06/01/2004 : 07:45:31 Thanks for the comments, everyone. We do shut off our main diesel engine and diesel engine genset while refueling, as well as the ignition systems for refrigerator and water heater. Although a diesel engine is a non-spark ignition engine, the main engine drives an alternator and the genset engine drives a generator ... and surely, sparks could be produced from secondary sources. Therefore, since I don't want to take a chance, I shut down everything. It's just that other RVers often ask the question on the 'net and I wanted others' opinions. Thanks again. (AP) - A 40-foot motor home was converted into a strip club on wheels, offering alcohol and lap dances to football fans outside the stadium before kickoff of Sunday's Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, police said. Six women performed lap dances inside the motor home, charging $20 to $40 depending on whether they danced topless or totally nude, police said Tuesday. The vehicle, adorned with a sign for strip club Deja Vu, was parked across the street from Raymond James Stadium. Patrons paid a $20 cover charge and were served alcohol, said Tampa police Sgt. Bill Todd. Officers also caught a male patron smoking marijuana in the back of the vehicle. "We determined this was the fourth game this season where they had done this," Todd said. "I don't understand what justification they think they had, bringing this to a family environment like a Bucs game." Police charged all six dancers with being nude where alcohol is served, and with being nude in a commercial establishment, misdemeanor violations of city ordinances. Two of the strippers who police said engaged in sex as part of the show each were charged with a misdemeanor count each of performing an unnatural and lascivious act. Three men connected to the club were charged with selling alcohol without a license and conspiring to violate beverage laws. One of them owned the motor home and was also charged with renting space for lewdness. All are misdemeanors. Undercover officers raided the bus after seeing people hand out fliers advertising the party onboard, Todd said. An attorney for the club, Luke Lirot, said he doesn't think the alleged city ordinance violations will stand up in court. "The fact that this doesn't take place at a specific business location would render those charges inapplicable," Lirot said, likening the bus to a tailgate party where people share beverages. He said Deja Vu managers parked the "party bus" across from the stadium to advertise their club's permanent location. Lirot said the business should not be punished for promoting exotic dance, which he called a form of expression protected by the First Amendment. As long as partygoers exercise discretion and do not violate state statutes, "what goes on in the bus should stay on the bus," he said. -- TOP STORIES • Time to take a break from football • Penguins' Lemieux retires yet again | The last goodbye • Reluctant Artest reportedly may kill Pacers-Kings deal • New boss same as old boss: Theo is Red Sox GM again • Nets' Carter: Kobe's 81 sets bad example for kids • Major letdown: Davenport's Slam slump now six years • Rams hire ex-Saints coach as defensive coordinator • Steelers buck tradition, will wear white away uniforms • Nova's Ray will sit out Tuesday with sore hamstring More News | All RSS XML NFL NEWS Headlines • The worst playoffs ever? • Rams hire ex-Saints coach as defensive coordinator • Shanahan: Broncos were closer than many thought • Falcons hire Musgrave to be Vick's tutor • He's back: Dolphins hire Capers as special assistant • Vegas makes Steelers early Super Bowl favorite • Dungy returning to coach Colts next season • Student humiliated by teacher over Broncos jersey • With win, Bettis gets a shot to leave NFL on top More Headlines | All RSS XML | NFL Video • Seattle smilin' • Shaun shows hardware • Moon 'Airs It Out' • Jauron on board in Buffalo Video Home | All RSS XML SPONSORED LINKS FOXSports.com: Privacy Policy | Terms of Use | Press | Feedback | Jobs | Tickets | News Corp. | controlyourtv.org | All RSS XML FOX.com | FOX News | FX | Fox Soccer Channel | Fuel TV | Fox Reality - © 2006 Fox Sports Interactive Media, LLC. Try a Map Auto Emergencies Car Games Credit Tips for Travelers Safe driving starts with planning your route and making a travel plan. A driving vacation can be a lot of fun, but don’t leave safety and common sense behind. Here are the basics for a safe vacation. Before You Go Check your car or have it serviced before any long trip (battery, tires, belts and fluids). Have a qualified technician check the air conditioner. Check your oil. If you will be towing a trailer or boat, or driving in the desert, switch to a motor oil with higher viscosity. Pack an emergency kit that includes water, jumper cables, flares, a flashlight, equipment to change a tire, and a first aid kit. Fill up your gas tank at night or early in the morning to minimize damage to the ozone layer. Make sure your child safety seats and booster seats are properly installed. On the Road Require all occupants to buckle up, with children in the back seat. Obey speed limits and all roadway signs. Drive calmly and avoid entanglements with aggressive drivers. Pack non-perishable snacks and plenty of juice and water (individual water bottles for each family member helps you monitor intake to avoid dehydration). Take frequent breaks – at least every two hours – and avoid driving when tired. Be especially careful around railroad crossings. Avoid driving in the "No Zone" around trucks. If you cannot see the truck driver in the truck’s mirror, the truck driver cannot see you. Slow down in work zones, obey all signs and flaggers and pay attention to the vehicle in front of you (most work zone crashes are rear-end collisions due to an inattentive driver). Touring Your Destination Never leave children alone in a car. Do not leave children or pets in a car with the windows rolled up even for a few minutes. A sunshade can help keep the car from becoming dangerously hot. Cover up seat belts and child safety seats with a towel or blanket while the car is parked (on a hot day, the plastic and metal parts can get hot enough to burn). Review safe pedestrian practices with children. Taking or renting bikes? Be sure to pack your bike helmets. Have a planned meeting site in case someone gets lost. Above all – take it easy! Vacations should be enjoyable. If you are tense you are more likely to speed and drive aggressively. If you are tired, you are more likely to make driving errors or fall asleep at the wheel.
