An integral part of RVIA’s public relations outreach, the 2005 media tours highlight the advantages of RV travel to various target buyers identified by industry research. For almost 15 years, RVIA has enlisted a diverse group of engaging spokespeople to bring the industry’s messages to local media across the country. These tours have reached more than 100 million households and garnered positive media exposure for the RV industry in all 48 contiguous states. RVIA spokespersons Brad and Amy Herzog, with their two toddler sons, are touring as the newly dubbed “See America” Family. The Herzogs’ new title comes from RVIA’s partnership with the Travel Industry Association of America and its domestic travel marketing program, See America. These Generation Xers kicked off their annual media tour i n February. The Herzogs are promoting RV travel as the best way to see America , while building awareness of the online See America Treasure Hunt Game and Sweepstakes. The Treasure Hunt encourages domestic travel through trivia questions about destinations, movies, famous Americans and historical sites. Veteran industry spokesperson David Woodworth launches his fourteenth consecutive annual “National RV History Tour” in March. An RV historian and travel expert, Woodworth will cover almost 30 midsize to major media markets in a 42-foot, 2005 Type A motorhome supplied by Monaco Coach Corporation of Coburg, Ore. He’ll have his fully restored 1931 Mae West RV in tow as he promotes RV travel in broadcast and print interviews during his 60-day tour in 15 states. This “rolling museum” tour celebrates the evolution of recreation vehicles, an American travel mode that traces its roots back to the turn of the century. As owner of the largest collection of antique RVs in existence, Woodworth successfully conveys RV travel’s ageless appeal. “RVing has been so popular for so long because it fills one of the most basic human needs -- freedom,” says Woodworth. “From the early 1900s to the present, RVs have given people the ability to go wherever they want, whenever they want.” New to the RVIA media spokesperson team this year is acclaimed mystery writer and RV enthusiast Sue Henry. Henry will travel in a Winnebago Ty pe C motorhome for her “Mystery on Wheels” tour from May through June to coincide with the paperback release of her latest work, Serpent’s Trail . The same Winnebago motorhome appears on the cover of the book, available in bookstores nationwide. Henry, who hails from Alaska , has won several prestigious literary awards, and her first book, Murder on the Iditarod Trail , sold over a million copies and was made into a TV movie. Secretary Norton Speaks to Recreational Vehicle Owners in Redmond, Oregon Department Of Interior Office of the Secretary Contact: Shane Wolfe For Immediate Release: August 20, 2004 202-208-6416 Secretary Norton Speaks to Recreational Vehicle Owners in Redmond, Oregon REDMOND, OREGON - Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton yesterday evening addressed thousands of members of the Family Motor Coach Association at their 72nd International Convention in Redmond, Ore., telling them of the unprecedented financial support President Bush and the Department of the Interior are providing to maintain and improve facilities at America's national parks. "As the secretary in charge or our national park system, it was a real honor to meet and talk with so many people from a group that so often recreates on public lands," said Secretary Norton. "I know that they - along with all recreational users -- share with me a special fondness for and sense of ownership of our national parks and other public lands." Secretary Norton discussed the state of America's national parks, reminding them of the record investment President Bush has made in America's national parks. "President Bush has committed $4.9 billion to address the longstanding backlog of park maintenance projects that he inherited when he took office," said Secretary Norton. "The President is meeting that pledge. The annual budget of the National Park Service is now $1.8 billion - 20% higher than when he took office." In addition, Secretary Norton urged the RV owners to become involved in the "Take Pride in America" program. Supported by numerous private associations and organizations, Take Pride in America is a national partnership that aims to inspire a new generation of volunteers to put their love of country to work to improve our national parks, wildlife refuges, public lands, cultural and historic sites, playgrounds and other recreation areas. "From Oregon to Florida and Maine to Hawaii, people have signed up to volunteer on public lands and waters to make the places we relax, play and visit better for all Americans.," said Secretary Norton. "They are making a real difference." Secretary Norton launched the Take Pride in America program on April 16, 2003, at the National Press Club.
