Since 1666 when the first private home insurance was issued following the Great Fire of London, home owners have been protecting their homes -- and their families' standard of living -- with homeowners insurance. What Is Homeowners Insurance? This coverage helps limit your financial losses if your home or its contents are damaged, destroyed, or stolen. For a budgetable annual premium, if you are adequately insured, homeowners insurance shifts the bulk of the exposure to the insurance company. So, depending on your policy, if your possessions are lost or damaged owing to fire, theft, vandalism, storm or another covered disaster, your homeowners insurance can help rebuild, repair or replace the asset. It can also pay damages if someone is hurt on your property. (Note that flood damage is not covered under homeowners policies and must be purchased separately.) Who Needs Homeowners Insurance? You may if you own a home, whether it be a single family home, duplex, condominium or mobile home. When you apply for a mortgage, the lender will generally require proof of homeowners insurance to protect both their and your investment in your home. Even when not required, however, homeowners insurance is the single best way to protect against unexpected losses. How Does It Work? Depending on your individual need and budget, homeowners insurance can be purchased in a number of "packages." Coverage may insure against losses owing to: Injury occurring on your property. Fire and lightning. Smoke damage. Windstorms and hail. Vandalism. Theft. Explosions. Riots and civil commotion. Damage by vehicles and aircraft. Glass breakage. Premiums are based on the level of coverage, individual company rates (which may vary significantly), the value of your home and its contents, its location, and the amount of your deductible. Why Should I Find Out More? Ask yourself the following: If my home burned down, how would I find the financial resources to rebuild it? If my home were broken into and my possessions stolen or vandalized, how would I replace them quickly and without sacrifice? If a neighbor slipped and was injured on my property, would I be willing to risk paying for a lawsuit? If a tree fell on my roof, how would I pay for the repairs? Homeowners insurance can limit your liability to your deductible amount if a covered event takes place. Homeowners Insurance In Action: One Example When Lou and Sally returned home from their usual Thursday evening dinner out at their favorite restaurant, they were met by fire trucks and police cars in the driveway. An electrical short in the stereo system had caused a fire that destroyed 40 percent of their home. Because they had a homeowners policy with broad coverage, their out-of-pocket expenses were minimal relative to the total costs sustained. The insurance company paid their temporary housing costs up to the coverage limit. Get your mortgage from Chase. Over the years, the public has nicknamed this show "The BIG One" and it really lives up to that name. If you can't find the recreation vehicle brand you're looking for at this show it probably isn't sold in Ontario. Efficient Camper Vans lined up for inspection The major recreation vehicle manufacturers participating in this show allow only their best dealers to man their exhibits; in fact, it's considered an honor for a dealer to be chosen as an "exclusive exhibitor" at this show. The benefit of this to the consumer is the high quality of staff they will meet in each exhibit and knowing that a factory representative is almost always on duty. Check out the "Products" page on this web site for all the brands that could be on display. At last count, there were over 160 brands of trailers, motor homes and relocatable houses. As you get closer to making a recreation vehicle buying decision, you can meet with insurance brokers and major banks at the show so you can check out the other costs of RV ownership - all without leaving the show. If you're tired of cheesy fashion shows, second-rate entertainment, beer nut vendors, T-shirt hawkers, and other distractions this is the show for you. It is a pure RV show - only exhibits of recreation vehicles and RV related products and services are permitted. Luxurious Fifth-Wheel Trailer w/ slide-out The Spring Motor Home and Trailer Show takes over the entire main complex of the International Centre at the end of February and has done so for the last 32 years. This show has two entrances: one marked "East # 1" and one marked "West #4". There are over 6,000 free parking spaces located between them so you never have too far to walk to an entrance. There are also no stairs to climb at this show because the display area is all on one level (street level) so it is completely wheel chair friendly. All entrances are wheel chair accessible and there is even a limited number of wheel chairs available on a "first-come" basis at the West entrance. Ask the show staff for details. Park Model Trailers - the affordable summer cottage or ski chalet Hungry? There are 4 specific food areas, stand up or cafeteria style, that serve everything from light snacks and refreshments to full-course meals. Looking for a specific exhibitor? There are free colour product locator maps available at both entrances and throughout the show. Individual brands are all located in the same area so you don't waste time wandering back and forth between other exhibits. Looking for RV accessories? In the booth area, only items or services directly connected to the RV lifestyle will be found. Near the East ticket entrance you'll discover a giant RV parts store. Make your purchase right at the show and take it home! Looking for information about RV tow hitches, electrical systems, RV plumbing, satellite systems, RV financing or leasing, air-conditioning units, RV magazines, travel destinations, and RV resorts? Look in the booth area. Want information about where to take a recreation vehicle? Well, you've already learned that wherever there is a destination connected by a road, your recreational vehicle can take you there. But did you also know that in Ontario there are over 100,000 beautiful sites to park your RV, all represented by people at the show who are ready to talk to you and explain their many advantages and features. Compact hard-side trailer is easy on the budget By the way, did you know that we, the people of Ontario, own over 42,000 of them and that they're actually located in the 280 Provincial Parks scattered all over Ontario just waiting for us? In the Provincial Parks display near the East entrance, park rangers will be glad to chat with you about the fabulous facilities offered in our parks. These 100,000 sites range from "basic and rugged" to absolutely "luxurious". Whether you're a back packer or camper ready for an upgrade, or a young married couple looking for a quality holiday that's not only affordable but also expandable to accommodate a future family, there's a recreation vehicle on display at the Spring Motor Home and Trailer Show that will be just right for you. Are you retired or almost retired? If you've ever had a dream to travel and see North America, or envied the people that went to a resort, an RV will fill the most demanding dream. If you've ever had to put up with a bad neighbor, or wished you could change the view out of your picture window, those problems no longer exist with the recreation vehicles we call "relocatable housing". Come and see for yourself all the advantages of these affordable substitutes for overpriced cottages or ski chalets. Fifth-Wheel Trailer w/ cab-over bedroom You'll probably be very surprised to see the huge selection of recreation vehicles that are on display at the Spring Motor Home and Trailer Show - most people coming for the first time are! As you tour the show, you slowly realize what the "RV Leisure Lifestyle" is all about and it could explain why many first timers come back again and again. One last thing to note: every hour you spend at this show probably equals one week of driving around from one RV lot to another. This show simply has more, as well as a greater variety, of recreation vehicles on display than any dealer could ever hope to show you. One might even say that this show is really the logical "one-stop shopping trip" if you want to see all the products that make possible the luxurious "RV Leisure Lifestyle". Be prepared to find yourself changing your views on how your leisure time should be spent. You won't be the first. ^Top [HOME] © 2002-2005 The Motor Home and Trailer Show |
