Technical Assistance Resources for Motorcoach and Over-the-Road Bus Operators ADA Training Program People with disabilities are a significant and growing market in the travel and tourism industry. Easter Seals Project ACTION, in partnership with the American Bus Association , developed the ADA Training Program for Motorcoach Companies . This free resource provides guidance to companies, drivers and others who serve passengers with disabilities on the ADA regulations for accessible motorcoach service. This program comes with a self-study guide for companies, fact sheets for customers and operators, and two videos which review how to safely secure mobility aids and provide the best customer service. The 2005 training program builds on the ADA Pocket Handbook for motorcoach companies, originally developed by ESPA and ABA in 2001, and the pocket guide is included within the package. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta applauded Easter Seals Project ACTION and the American Bus Association for "giving the motorcoach industry a hands-on tool it needs to comply not only with the letter of ADA, but with its spirit as well, through excellent customer service.” The complete ADA Training Program for Motorcoach Companies package, which includes two videos, print materials, and a CD-ROM with electronic versions of the individual print components, may be ordered free of charge from the Easter Seals Project ACTION Clearinghouse . Electronic versions of the individual print components may also be downloaded in PDF or plain text formats through the following links: Self-Study Guide PDF text Getting on Board: Facts for Customers of Motorcoach Service PDF text Operator Fact Sheet: Serving Customers with Disabilities on America’s Motorcoaches PDF text Pocket Handbook PDF text The Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view PDF files. National Accessible Travelers Database If you operate accessible motorcoach service and wish to share information about your services with travelers with disabilities, Easter Seals Project ACTION invites you to list your services in the National Accessible Travelers Database . To meet a need for more direct information about accessible services among users, travel agents, tour coordinators and tour guides, Easter Seals Project ACTION maintains this online database of accessible transportation services in the United States which includes accessible motorcoach, charter and tour companies. This free resource allows the user to locate accessible transportation services in the state and city they plan to visit. The user is also able to view the travel agencies specializing in travel arrangements for persons with disabilities. To add your accessible transportation service to the database, or to update the information currently included on your service, please complete the Travelers Database survey form and return to Easter Seals Project ACTION by mail, fax or electronically. From Sharon O'Brien , Your Guide to Senior Living . FREE Newsletter. Sign Up Now! Knowing the pros and cons can help you make the best RV decision RV travel is a great way to go if you love to travel, enjoy driving, and have a flexible schedule. The benefits of RV travel An RV lets you travel at your own pace. You always have a comfortable and often luxurious “suite” to stay in, without the hassle and expense of checking in and out of hotels. Having your own RV kitchen can help you save on food costs by making your own meals. An RV gives you the freedom to choose how long you stay at each location. Now that you are interested in RV travel, the question is: should you rent or buy the RV? Answering these questions will help you make the RV decision that best fits your budget and your lifestyle. Are you experienced at RV travel? If you are new to RV travel, consider renting. Most RV rental companies will provide tips and even driving lessons for RV beginners. If you are an experienced RV traveler, buying gives you the freedom to customize your RV to fit your needs. How long/how often will you be traveling by RV? If your schedule allows limited travel time, a single trip of less than 6 months or a few shorter trips, you may want to consider renting an RV because if you own your RV you will have to pay storage, maintenance and insurance costs even when you aren’t traveling. If you plan to be on the road most of the time, buying an RV may be more cost-effective in the long run. Where will you be traveling with your RV? If your travel plans center around North America, the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, owning your RV makes sense. You can buy a new or used RV model that has the features you want, and you are free to travel as you wish. If you would like to travel by RV in Europe and other parts of the world, you will most likely be renting because shipping your RV abroad could be cost-prohibitive.   Topic Index | Email to a Friend Our Story | Be a Guide | Advertising Info | Work at About | Site Map | Icons | Help User Agreement | Ethics Policy | Patent Info. | Privacy Policy | Kids' Privacy Policy ©2006 About, Inc., A part of The New York Times Company .
