The AARP Mobile Home Insurance Program Home Contact us Join AARP About us -- Get a motorcycle estimate -- Report a claim Learn about the Motorcycle Program -- Request service Get safety tips Mobile Home program AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program Information For real peace of mind as you travel the highways and byways, you need a policy that provides a wide range of coverages. Why tack your motorcycle onto a conventional auto policy when you can get affordable, specialized coverage with an AARP-endorsed insurance program? We provide important standard and optional coverages geared just to motorcycles. We offer: Lifetime Renewal of your policy First-Accident Waiver Important Available Coverages Superior Optional Coverages Higher Limits for Optional Equipment Coverage Higher Limits for Liability and Medical Payments Annual Policies Broad Eligibility Money-Saving Discounts Convenient Deductibles and Payment Plans The AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program from Foremost includes: Lifetime Renewal just for AARP members When your bike is insured through the AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program, your policy will remain in force year after year -- for as long as you wish. That's security you can count on! There are just a few simple requirements to qualify for this benefit. You must: Pay your premiums on time Remain physically and mentally capable of operating a motorcycle Inform Foremost of any change that substantially increases your risk Only allow drivers listed on your application to operate your bike Not conceal, omit or misrepresent any material facts or circumstances Not make a false or fraudulent claim Avoid having your driver's license suspended, revoked, non-renewed or placed in any disciplinary status for any reason. This also applies to additional operators. Lifetime Renewal means real peace of mind! First-Accident Waiver Once you have participated in the AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program for three years, and if you and all operators on your policy have had a safe driving record for the previous five years, you may qualify for the Foremost First-Accident Waiver. This means, if you make a claim with Foremost for an accident for which you are at fault, we will not take that accident into account when we determine your future premium amounts. While it will still be on your driving record, we won't consider it when it is time to renew your policy. Important Available Coverages: Collision Protects your bike in the event of damage caused by hitting things like other vehicles, trees or telephone poles, regardless of who is at fault. Other than Collision Coverage Provides coverage for other kinds of damage to your motorcycle such as fire, theft, flood, vandalism or contact with a bird or animal. Safety Apparel Coverage This covers damage to any clothing designed to minimize damage from an accident, including helmets and leathers. Optional Equipment Coverage You'll get coverage for most accessories permanently attached to your bike such as parts, decorations, custom painting, chroming, side cars or other items that were not originally provided by the manufacturer as standard equipment. Limited Replacement Cost Coverage You qualify for this coverage when you buy Collision Coverage for bikes purchased new with a maximum MSRP of $35,000 (bike must be replaced). If you qualify for this coverage and your under-two-year-old bike is destroyed by a covered loss, we'll pay to replace it with a brand new motorcycle of the same type. (Not available for custom motorcycles.) Liability Coverage Protects you from third party claims for injuries and property damage that result from an accident involving the covered motorcycle. Passenger Liability Coverage Provides coverage to a passenger who is not an insured if you become legally liable to the passenger due to an accident. Uninsured Motorist Coverage Provides coverage for your bodily injury or death caused by an uninsured driver or a hit-and-run driver who is legally responsible for the accident. Underinsured Motorist Coverage Provides coverage for your injuries or death if you are involved in an accident with a motorist that either has no insurance or insufficient limits and the other party is considered at fault. We will pay the difference up to the policy limit. Personal Injury Protection Provides coverage for an eligible person for the cost of personal injuries resulting from an accident while on the insured motorcycle. Available in limited states. Medical Payments Coverage Provides coverage for medical bills incurred for injuries resulting from a motor vehicle accident. Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage Provides extra security if you're in a collision with someone who doesn't have insurance or is underinsured. Superior Optional Coverages You Can Purchase: Higher Limits on Optional Equipment Coverage In addition to the standard $3,500 limit, you can buy extra coverage to increase your limit if you have more optional equipment. Increased Liability limits and Medical Payments Coverage limits You can purchase higher liability limits and Medical Payment Coverage limits too. You'll like what else the AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program automatically gives you: Annual policies Our annual policy lets you enjoy year-round coverage with no lay-up period. If the road is calling to you on a beautiful winter day, rest assured that you're covered. No extra phone calls, no hassles! For years motorcyclists have tried to save money by canceling their policies during the "off" season. The problem is that during the off-season, you usually have several days that end up being perfect for riding. Then you can't ride because you don't have insurance on your bike. Or you have to go through the extra hassle of calling your agent to re-instate your coverage. By the time you do that, your perfect day may be almost over! Luckily the AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program solves this problem with an annual policy. And, the policy price takes into account that you may not drive it much during your particular off-season. So you always have the option of going for a spin when the sun comes out and the temperature rises, no matter what the time of year. Broad Eligibility You can get coverage for a wide range of cycles including cruisers, touring bikes, sport bikes, trike conversions, as well as custom and classic cycles. Money-Saving Discounts The AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program already offers a competitive premium, but discounts* you may be eligible for could take your premium even lower, such as: Multi-Unit discounts of up to 50% Multi-Policy discounts Preferred Operator discount Motorcycle Safety Course discount Prior motorcycle insurance discount *Availability of discounts varies by state. Convenient Deductibles and Payment Plans We give you a choice of lower or higher deductible amounts if you want to lower the cost of your premium. You can also choose the flexible payment plan that works best with your budget. We want to make it easy for you to do business with us. Note: Although our program is offered in most states, The AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program may not be available in your area at this time, and policies, coverage amounts and discounts can vary. The AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program is not available in Hawaii, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands. It's currently not available in Alaska but will be in this state in the future. AARP and its affiliates receive from the Foremost Insurance Group of companies, payments for AARP's license of its name and logo for use by Foremost in connection with the AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program. Amounts paid by Foremost for this license are used for the general purposes of the Association and its members. The AARP Motorcycle Insurance Program is unavailable in some areas of the country, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Friday January 20, 2006 | permalink Staying Warm Sunnycamper posted in the Camping Forum that she had recently purchased a Marmot Women's Mavericks 15 mummy sleeping bag, thinking it would keep her warm in North Florida. She goes on to say: "I tent camp with my son's Cubscout Pack, and I just put the bag to the test this past weekend. We estimate the temperature got down to around 30 degrees. There was no rain and no wind. When it was time to hit the hay, I started with two layers of long johns, one silk and one cotton, and quickly had to put on one more layer. I added a set of sweats. I did fall asleep for a short time, but woke up shivering and had to put on my ski jacket. I'm pretty sure my ski jacket has some kind of Thinsulate or equivalent insulation, and I was able to stay warm through the night, more or less. I was wearing a fleece hat and wool socks, and the head part of the mummy bag was totally closed. I was very disappointed in having to put on my jacket, as I thought the investment in this bag would eliminate that need. Thought I was doing all the right things with the layers. The top piece closest to my skin was actually a Patagonia Capilene. My bag was on a Thermarest Z-lite sleeping pad which was in turn on top of an inflatable air mattress. ( I know, the air mattress is probably a no-no, but I'm going to give that up as a last resort.) My Coleman Sundome 10x10 tent was pitched on top of a blue tarp. What else can I do? Put my mummy inside of another bag? I also don't have a lot of "natural" insulation. I'm a slim gal, 5'7 and about 130 lbs. Any advice on layers, etc would be welcome." Sunnycamper received several good suggestions in reply, but I like Bruce's best. He took a different approach and suggested that she had on way too much clothing. Read more... Monday January 16, 2006 | permalink Why Stake Your Tent? So it doesn't blow away. To understand the adverse effects that wind can play on a tent, one need only look at a tent from an aerodynamic perspective. The consequence of wind blowing across the dome shape of a tent is not unlike that of air passing over the curved wing of an airplane, namely lift. And this lift is the main reason why you need to stake your tent, for without the stakes your tent could quickly become a kite in the lightest of winds and destroy itself as it tumbles through the woods or across the sand dunes. My father-in-law gave me one of these for Christmas. I immediately thought how great this would be for camping. It's about the size of a cell phone, it's lightweight, and it requires no batteries. A few turns of the crank provides all the energy needed to light either 1 or 3 LEDs. An ideal emergency flashlight for backpackers, boaters, or campers.
