Proper disposal If you have used motor oil you'd like to recycle, there are nearly 100 locations in King County that will recycle it for you. Here is a list of motor oil recycling sites . Seattle residents can also take used (not contaminated) oil to the north or south transfer stations (see link below). The Seattle haz sheds take contaminated oil (mixed with water, antifreeze etc.). They will also take used oil if bringing other household hazardous waste (see links below). King County residents: The Factoria Locker and wastemobile will take both used and contaminated oil - 30 gallon limit (see links below). Household Hazardous Waste collection locations, times of operation, and what is accepted: Wastemobile (mobile collection events outside Seattle) Seattle - north haz shed Seattle - south haz shed Bellevue-Factoria storage locker The Factoria Locker has a 30 gallon household hazardous waste limit per customer per day. There are no exceptions and no containers can be over 5 gallons in size. Customers will not receive their gasoline containers back. For the Seattle facilities and the King County Wastemobile, there is a 30 gallon gasoline limit, and pre-approval is required for large quantities (over 50 gallons), containers over 5 gallons in size, and any unusual wastes. No appointments are necessary. All State Used Oil Collection Centers are certified *by the California Integrated Waste Management Board. Most locations acccept drained oil filters as well as used motor oil. The Centers offer a $0.16 per gallon recycling incentive to the public. Please call for hours of operation. It is illegal to leave oil afterbusiness hours. "The Used Oil Recycling Program is funded by a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board." PREPARATION Motor oil brought to recycling centers must not be contaminated . Never mix solvents, water, gasoline or antifreeze with your used oil. Use plastic containers that seal tightly and are pourable. Oil is accepted in 5 gallon (or smaller) containers with a 5 gallon limit per day. Filters must be drained and put in a leak proof container. Call the center before you take in your oil. If their tank is full, they can refer you to another nearby location.
