Welcome to Adobe GoLive 5 Cross Country in a Country Coach By Len Souza Last week I had an opportunity to drive a new Country Coach Intrigue motor home across the country for six days over a distance of 3,200 miles. The trip originated at the Country Coach factory in Junction City, Oregon and it ended in Perry, Georgia at the site of the FMCA National Winter Rally. Prior to this I had never driven a High Line diesel pusher more than 10 or 20 miles during various test drives. This trip would be a new experience for me and it would test of my fortitude, as the schedule required that I drive 500 miles each day and deliver the coach in 6 days. This would require me to drive 9 to 10 hours each day. I normally drive no more than 5 or 6 hours each day when I travel in my own gas powered motor home. This driving experience was a real eye opener for me; it taught me some valuable lessons. The people who have experienced a High Line diesel motor home will tell you that you are much more rested at the end of the day and they state that “getting there” is over half of the enjoyment of traveling by motor home. After this trip, I am a believer! My overall impression can be summarized with two (2) words, Confidence and Comfort. The Confidence came about because of the superb road manners that this coach exhibited; it tracked between the lines exactly where I pointed it and with no effort on my part. The road conditions didn’t seem to deter or challenge this coach; I encountered crosswinds of over 30 MPH at one point and very rough roadbeds at several points along the 3,200 miles. None of these conditions affected this motor home, it just kept moving along in the exact direction that I pointed it in. The powerful ISL 400 Cummins propelled the coach along effortlessly, even up steep grades. The Comfort associated with driving this motor home was not only enjoyable but it afforded me one very important benefit, it did not fatigue me. At the end of each day I felt great after having driven for 9 or 10 hours; I was a bit astonished, as I hadn’t expected this outcome. The chassis, with its air suspension ride and precise power steering with the great tactile feel--help this Country Coach earn the title of “High Line” motor coach. I also had the opportunity to get intimately familiar with the coach as I inspected it very closely twice each day out on the road. The quality that I saw in the chassis-joint welds, the cabling and the inside and outside hull construction was very impressive. The coach displayed a very high degree of “Fit and Finish” excellence. After this driving experience I have a much better realization and appreciation for the value that a High Line diesel motor home affords its owners. Chase Insurance Group - Homeowners Insurance ")} else if (document.all){document.write("")} else {document.write("")}//-- Home About Us Careers Contact Us Find Us Privacy & Security Site Map Log On Search Individuals Small Business Advice & Planning Customer Center Insurance Personal Property Chase Protect Your Most Valuable Possessions. Since 1666 when the first private home insurance was issued following the Great Fire of London, home owners have been protecting their homes -- and their families' standard of living -- with homeowners insurance. What Is Homeowners Insurance? This coverage helps limit your financial losses if your home or its contents are damaged, destroyed, or stolen. For a budgetable annual premium, if you are adequately insured, homeowners insurance shifts the bulk of the exposure to the insurance company. So, depending on your policy, if your possessions are lost or damaged owing to fire, theft, vandalism, storm or another covered disaster, your homeowners insurance can help rebuild, repair or replace the asset. It can also pay damages if someone is hurt on your property. (Note that flood damage is not covered under homeowners policies and must be purchased separately.) Who Needs Homeowners Insurance? You may if you own a home, whether it be a single family home, duplex, condominium or mobile home. When you apply for a mortgage, the lender will generally require proof of homeowners insurance to protect both their and your investment in your home. Even when not required, however, homeowners insurance is the single best way to protect against unexpected losses. How Does It Work? Depending on your individual need and budget, homeowners insurance can be purchased in a number of "packages." Coverage may insure against losses owing to: Injury occurring on your property. Fire and lightning. Smoke damage. Windstorms and hail. Vandalism. Theft. Explosions. Riots and civil commotion. Damage by vehicles and aircraft. Glass breakage. Premiums are based on the level of coverage, individual company rates (which may vary significantly), the value of your home and its contents, its location, and the amount of your deductible. Why Should I Find Out More? Ask yourself the following: If my home burned down, how would I find the financial resources to rebuild it? If my home were broken into and my possessions stolen or vandalized, how would I replace them quickly and without sacrifice? If a neighbor slipped and was injured on my property, would I be willing to risk paying for a lawsuit? If a tree fell on my roof, how would I pay for the repairs? Homeowners insurance can limit your liability to your deductible amount if a covered event takes place. Homeowners Insurance In Action: One Example When Lou and Sally returned home from their usual Thursday evening dinner out at their favorite restaurant, they were met by fire trucks and police cars in the driveway. An electrical short in the stereo system had caused a fire that destroyed 40 percent of their home. Because they had a homeowners policy with broad coverage, their out-of-pocket expenses were minimal relative to the total costs sustained. The insurance company paid their temporary housing costs up to the coverage limit. Get your mortgage from Chase. Make smarter home financing decisions and find the right mortgage by visiting the Chase Home Finance Center to check current mortgage rates, use calculators and apply online. StreetWise RV Guide — Is the RV Safe and Reliable? StreetWise Home > RV Guide Home > Is the RV Safe and Reliable? Is the RV Safe and Reliable? About the web site links on this page Whether you buy new or used, the key to smart RV buying is knowing the quality and condition of the specific RV you want to buy. We've got lots of good tips and sites here for you. Check out reviews on the RV models you like. The following are just a few of the many websites that offer RV reviews. There are a number of sites with owner's reviews, which are generally freer to offer a full range of pros and cons than some magazine reviews. In addition to using the following sites, you can also enter the name of the model you like into your search engine followed by "RV review" to search for reviews of that specific model. Owner Reviews RV America Owner's Reviews allows you to browse or search reviews. Owners may provide a very detailed review as well as ratings for product, dealer, and manufacturer. MotorhomeReviewOnline.com Reviews are accessed by scrolling through them. Results from owner surveys are provided numerically. You can request specific info on a motorhome. If you currently own an RV, you may complete a 25-question survey about your motorhome and complete a review of it. The RVClub has owner-written RV reviews by RVClub members. You don't have to be a member to read the reviews. Reviews rate the RV from 1 (worst) to 5 (best). The database may be searched by any of the following criteria: rating, model year, manufacturer, model, and RV type. Reviewers indicate how long they've owned the RV, whether they purchased it new or used, good points, bad points, and any other comments. RV Magazines These magazines offer reviews. In general only a few reviews are posted on their websites. MotorHome RV Gazette RV Life Trailer Life Family Motor Coaching is the magazine of the Family Motor Coach Association Critical steps for checking out an RV, if you are buying used RVs go from very simple to very, very complex. Some of the ultra top-end RVs nearly require a full-time mechanic to service their very complex systems. Mechanical problems, whatever the unit, multiply if you're buying used, and many problems aren't readily visible to even the most sophisticated auto mechanic. That's why StreetWise recommends that you always follow these steps when buying a used RV. Critical Tip! Don't buy an RV without talking to the previous owner! (If you are looking at a used RV at a dealership and they won't or can't give you the name of the previous owner, look for an RV for which this information is available.) Ask the previous owner: Where or from whom did you buy the RV? Why are you selling the RV? Who was your RV mechanic and how do I call that person? Did you keep maintenance records, and can I see them? Did you ever have any insurance claims on this rig? How long has the RV been for sale? (RV owners are much more likely to negotiate if their RV has been on the market for a long time.) Critical Tip! Don't buy any RV without taking it for an extensive "test drive." Even if you're not yet an RVer and are very uncomfortable at the wheel or uncomfortable towing, you must do this. RVs are like cars in many ways: you'll feel comfortable in some of them and very uncomfortable in others. If you're really too uncomfortable to do the driving why not bring along an experienced RVer to help you evaluate the RV? A friend or a member of a RV club would do this just to help you. Or, you can retain a mechanic to be the driver (not a bad idea, particularly if you are spending a lot of money on a RV.) Critical tip! Don't buy a used RV without having it checked out by an experienced mechanic. If you're buying an expensive motorized rig, this advice is doubly important. You can generally find qualified mechanics by talking with large, licensed RV dealers. If you're doubly careful, don't use a mechanic who works for the selling dealer. Hire a mechanic from another dealership. Having a mechanic thoroughly check the RV may cost you $100-300, depending upon the size and complexity of the rig, but this money is the best money you can spend. What are the key questions to ask a qualified mechanic? First, tell the mechanic about your conversation with the previous owner. Then ask the mechanic: How much will it cost me to put this entire rig in good running order? How many useful hours do the drivetrain and other major mechanical elements have before I need to either replace or rebuild them? Structurally, what is the condition of the frame? Checking out the general dependability of all RVs Generally speaking in the RV world, you get what you pay for. Some RVs are famous for durability; others are noted for their flimsiness. Among the best sources for dependability information are current owners of the RV you're considering. In addition to the RV owner review sites above, here are additional RV chat rooms, forums and rating services. Many chat rooms and forums, incidentally, allow you to post your own questions and concerns even before you buy an RV. There are also some good inspection checklists that will help you evaluate a rig yourself. If it doesn't pass your inspection, you may wish to cross it off your list before paying for a mechanic to check it out. We also give you a way to check to see if the RV is affected by any recalls. Chat Rooms and Forums The Open Roads Forum Forums/Bulletin Board/Chat Room list from rvNetLinx iRV2.com Forums A tip: The RV Consumer Group does an excellent job of rating RVs by highway safety, reliability, and value. The group's site has no advertising, which insures its independence. They charge about $100 for a one-year membership to RV reviews. If you are thinking of major RV purchase, we strongly recommend this service. RV Clubs A tip: virtually all RVs have "clubs" associated with them. Visit a major RV club event, and you may be able to find owners of RVs that interest you. Here's a link to help you find club events. RV Owners Clubs from rvNetLinx. You can also find clubs by entering the make of the RV and the words "club" and "association" in your favorite search engine. Inspection Checklists An RV Inspection Checklist form is included in the RV Consumer Group's basic membership. RV Safety's basic checklist focuses on getting ready to travel but can also be used in a pre-purchase evaluation. RV Inspection Checklist from the RVClub's RVing 101. Recalls Check out recalls for your RV by searching the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration Recall Database. You can also search complaints, defect investigations, and service bulletins.
