Meeting transcripts, presentations, and other items related to the closure will be added as they become available. We plan to close the Bayou Village Mobile Home Park on 30 June 2008. The following three factors influenced our plan: The utility infrastructure systems (water, sewer and electrical) that serve the area need major upgrades to guarantee continuity of service. These systems require significant financial investment to bring them up to standards. As a result of the recent tropical storm activities, the state of Florida has issued new Flood Plain mappings. Approximately 20% of Bayou Village is within the 100-year flood plain. This re-designation has already been included on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) dated 5 December 2002. All military family housing operations on Eglin AFB will be privatized within the next 2-4 years. The trailer park is not included in the privatization initiative, and the ability of the Eglin Housing Office to manage the trailer park will be severely limited. We have set 5 years as the closing period to allow park residents time to find a new location for their mobile home. In the interim, no new mobile homes will be authorized to move into Bayou Village. At this time, we will continue to allow occupants to sell in place; however, all incoming occupants will be advised of our future closure plans, and the Housing Office staff has been instructed to provide written notification to any prospective buyers. An integral part of RVIA’s public relations outreach, the 2005 media tours highlight the advantages of RV travel to various target buyers identified by industry research. For almost 15 years, RVIA has enlisted a diverse group of engaging spokespeople to bring the industry’s messages to local media across the country. These tours have reached more than 100 million households and garnered positive media exposure for the RV industry in all 48 contiguous states. RVIA spokespersons Brad and Amy Herzog, with their two toddler sons, are touring as the newly dubbed “See America” Family. The Herzogs’ new title comes from RVIA’s partnership with the Travel Industry Association of America and its domestic travel marketing program, See America. These Generation Xers kicked off their annual media tour i n February. The Herzogs are promoting RV travel as the best way to see America , while building awareness of the online See America Treasure Hunt Game and Sweepstakes. The Treasure Hunt encourages domestic travel through trivia questions about destinations, movies, famous Americans and historical sites. Veteran industry spokesperson David Woodworth launches his fourteenth consecutive annual “National RV History Tour” in March. An RV historian and travel expert, Woodworth will cover almost 30 midsize to major media markets in a 42-foot, 2005 Type A motorhome supplied by Monaco Coach Corporation of Coburg, Ore. He’ll have his fully restored 1931 Mae West RV in tow as he promotes RV travel in broadcast and print interviews during his 60-day tour in 15 states. This “rolling museum” tour celebrates the evolution of recreation vehicles, an American travel mode that traces its roots back to the turn of the century. As owner of the largest collection of antique RVs in existence, Woodworth successfully conveys RV travel’s ageless appeal. “RVing has been so popular for so long because it fills one of the most basic human needs -- freedom,” says Woodworth. “From the early 1900s to the present, RVs have given people the ability to go wherever they want, whenever they want.” New to the RVIA media spokesperson team this year is acclaimed mystery writer and RV enthusiast Sue Henry. Henry will travel in a Winnebago Ty pe C motorhome for her “Mystery on Wheels” tour from May through June to coincide with the paperback release of her latest work, Serpent’s Trail . The same Winnebago motorhome appears on the cover of the book, available in bookstores nationwide. Henry, who hails from Alaska , has won several prestigious literary awards, and her first book, Murder on the Iditarod Trail , sold over a million copies and was made into a TV movie.
