Non-owned Automobiles RENTAL VEHICLES & OTHER FORMS OF RENTED TRANSPORTATION INSURANCE PROGRAMS Effective July 1st, 2005 there are a number of significant changes to the Rental Vehicle Coverage. The changes have been hi-lighted in red for quick reference. Please be sure to read these changes and if you have any questions please contact 220-5719 or 220-5847. PLEASE NOTE: This is a short summaryof the above insurance program that has been prepared for quick reference. It does not include all of the conditions and exclusions that might applyon this policy. If you have any questions about the insurance implicationsof an activity or situation in which your department is involved, pleasecontact Insurance & Risk Management at 220-5719. SECTION1: Automobile Rental Insurance SECTION 2: Guidelinesfor Renting Vehicles on University Business SECTION3: Rental of Other Means of Transportation SECTION4: Reporting an Accident& Making a Claim ALERT.......DRIVING 15 PASSENGER VANS IN BRITISH COLUMBIA SECTION 1: AUTOMOBILE RENTALS There are two types of insurance programs listed under this section. One program is for those automobiles that are rented within Canada andthe U.S., and the other program is for those automobiles that are rentedthroughout the rest of the world. What is Covered This University non-owned auto program covers automobiles that are rented from RentalAgencies that are being used for University business. Please note: Insurance coverage for +30 day rentals is included in the Non-Owned Automobile insurance as of June 13, 2005 (previously they were added in the Owned Automobile Insurance) and these rentals are no longer required to be reported. WITHIN CANADA AND THE U.S. the University of Calgary insuranceprogram includes : liability insurance which covers damage to the property of othersand injuries to individuals. ADVICE : This program provides excess insurance over and abovethat which the Rental Agencies carry. The liability coverage providedby the Rental Agency and the University's excess policy should providesufficient coverage while you are engaged in University business. PLEASE NOTE : if you are not engaged in University businessat the time of the accident, you will NOT be covered by the Universityof Calgary liability insurance policy. You may, however, be coveredunder the Rental Agencies liability insurance as Canadian law requiresRental Agencies to carry $1 million in third party liability coverage. Rental Agencies in the United States may carry less or none at all, dependingon the States in which they are located. Please check with the RentalAgency at the time of rental for this information. collision and theft of Rented Automobile insurance up to a valueof $60,000 . University insurance does not include RentedAutomobiles that are used for recreational purposes. ADVICE : For Rented Automobiles that will be used for recreationalpurposes, for non-University business or for Rented Automobiles valuedat more than $60,000 , purchase the Collision Damage Waiver or Loss DamageWaiver for the full term of the rental from the rental company at the timeof the rental. If your department or trust holder does not wish to be responsible for the $1,000 deductible per accident through the current University insurance policy,we would also recommend that you purchase the Collision Damage Waiver from theRental Agency which will have a lower deductible. NOTE 1: Rental Agencies do not cover collision damage to the vehicle, unless the renter has purchased a Collision Damage Waiver or Loss DamageWaiver from the rental company at the time of the rental. See #7 for more information on other insurance coverage's. NOTE 2: Any damages not covered under the Collision Damage Waiver or the Loss Damage Waiver, will result in the department or trust holder being responsible for the $1,000 deductable. WITHIN THE REST OF THE WORLD the University of Calgary insuranceprogram includes : liability insurance which covers damage to the property of othersand injuries to individuals. ADVICE : This program provides excess insurance over and abovethat which the Rental Agencies carry. Compare Powerhouse for Power Safety Value Options & Reliability! POWERHOUSEOWNER AND COMPANY HISTORY My family and I have always been blessed withbeing close and enjoying the outdoors. If it is done outdoors and involvessomething with a motor on it, we do it. We have been enjoying RVs for many years. In the mid 90's we began looking at moving from a camp trailer to a motorhome. After being in the towing and auto body business for 20 yearsI knew the problems with the typical motor coaches being so unstableand under powered and I have seen first hand what was left of one afteran accident, which wasn't much and have towed it lots of low mile coacheswith blown motors and burned up transmissions I looked at some coaches built from a buschassis which offered a little more sturdy coach and a better chassis. This, however, had many problems: (1) Even a ten year old buses, with no slide outs, many of which had old obsolete two stroke diesel engines were over 175k (2) A bus with a single drive axle andlow ground clearance would make our off road campingdifficult (3) a bus with a rear mounted engine wouldmake the addition of a large capacity towing receiver difficult and expensive (4) I would still own something that would be a nightmare to work on, service, or get parts for. Its hard to find the engine and transmission ina bus or pusher coach let alone actually work on it. After being raised in a family trucking businessand spending most of my childhood servicing and maintaining semi trucks,I decided to build a custom luxury motor coach using a real class 8 semitruck. After building a Powerhouse Coach in 1998 theresults and response from anyone who saw it were overwhelming. The Powerhouse Coach was not only safe and affordablebut was also capable of towing and stopping anything I wanted to put behindit. I was actually using less fuel in this coach than I had beenusing a Dodge pickup to pull my camp trailer and motorcycles let alone the unbelievable power stability and safety I gained. Over the next year after selling two luxury motorcoaches built for my personal use, I started selling custom luxury motorcoaches as a prime business. The auto body repair and towing service weresoon phased out to keep up with demand for custom luxury motor coaches. My crew and I take GREAT PRIDE and satisfactionin providing our customers with a very high quality one of a kind luxurymotor coach. Contact the coach owners who are now eagerly working as Powerhouse Coach factory representatives and talk to themabout the performance of their custom luxury motor coaches. Please take the time to explore the Powerhouseweb site. Compare the run of the mill coaches you already knowabout to the next generation in luxury motor coaches. At Powerhouse we offer: Custom LuxuryMotor Coaches and Toter Trucks built the way you want them. Doug Tolbert President Powerhouse CoachInc.
