The Donation Merry-Go-'Round It's easy enough to donate your RV, van or motor home -- and many people and groups out there are making generic pleas for such donations. If you are considering giving such a valuable gift, please ask yourself: What is going to happen to my gift and what sort of thing am I supporting? Is it really a worthy cause and will my gift make a real difference in the world or am I dealing with a profitable business with a thin charitable disguise? Charity Scamathon The sad fact is, I just saw one of these wonderful gifts on eBay where they came out and said the person had donated it to a "charity" and now this private party is selling it on eBay for 100% profit! It isn't like they are all scams, and as long as these charit front groups tell you they are going to turn around and sell your donation, fine. There is nothing wrong with legitimate charities turning a profit on donations if the gift-giver knows that is what they are going to do and doesn't have a problem with it. But I suspect that this is often not the case, although I can't prove it. Making The Choice Giving the gift of a vehicle is a big deal, especially consideringyour personal investment, so you should choose carefully. You've invested yourself and your hard-earned dollars in a vehicle that you are now going to just give away. Shouldn't something really good come out of this? Now here's the really good news: One person can make a big difference by donating directly to a working, traveling artist who brings joy and culture to some of the back roads of America. It's not your usual charity thing, this is different! This is an entirely different way to see a gift like this: Instead of an arms-length business transaction, why not make a direct connection with the recipient? Instead of making your donation to a monolithic, impersonal charity mill, why not have the satisfaction of knowing that your gift is being put to positive use? One things that is needed is a replacement class A, B (van conversion) or C motor home that is in somewhat better mechanical condition so that the art mission can continue. Even a small car that could save some fuel would help a great deal. The artist is always willing to do some work but your donated vehicle should be driveable as and currently licensed to be movable. Choosing What Is Right Thebig charity mills offer prepackaged forms, plain vanilla tax deduction receipts and not much else. The beneficiary of your gift, assuming there actually is a real person on the other end, will never know who you are or why you chose to do what you did. Maybe it is time to think differently. Instead of an anonymous tax deduction, why not take direct action and give your gift ot a real person who will appreciate what you've done? It is not uncommon for the months of July and August to be reserved by February of each year. We encourage you to make your plans early if you are trying to reserve a cabin. There are regular customers who come every year who make reservations a year in advance. All cabins, camp sites and RV sites are prepaid at time of booking. You may cancel without penalty prior to May 1. If you need to cancel between May 1 and 15 days prior to your arrival date there is a 1 night cancellation fee. There are no refunds for reservations cancelled within 14 days of arrival date. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Personal Checks for reservations. If you are sending a personal check, we will hold your reservation for 14 days awaiting arrival of the check. Check In and Check Out Times: Check in time is 4 PM daily and Check out time is 11 AM. All cabins with dishes must have dishes done, stove cleaned, and cabin tidied up prior to departure to get their $25 deposit returned. Camping type cabins must be swept out, tidied up, and generally left in the condition they were found in. All trash must be taken from cabin on departure. Millers Landing Staff will check the cabins at departure time and refund the deposits on them if they are left in reasonably clean condition. Please remember the housekeeper is not responsible for doing the dishes, they are there for your convenience. Your participation in helping with keeping cabins neat and tidy is what helps keep our cabin rental costs low and reasonable.
