If it is done outdoors and involvessomething with a motor on it, we do it. We have been enjoying RVs for many years. In the mid 90's we began looking at moving from a camp trailer to a motorhome. After being in the towing and auto body business for 20 yearsI knew the problems with the typical motor coaches being so unstableand under powered and I have seen first hand what was left of one afteran accident, which wasn't much and have towed it lots of low mile coacheswith blown motors and burned up transmissions I looked at some coaches built from a buschassis which offered a little more sturdy coach and a better chassis. This, however, had many problems: (1) Even a ten year old buses, with no slide outs, many of which had old obsolete two stroke diesel engines were over 175k (2) A bus with a single drive axle andlow ground clearance would make our off road campingdifficult (3) a bus with a rear mounted engine wouldmake the addition of a large capacity towing receiver difficult and expensive (4) I would still own something that would be a nightmare to work on, service, or get parts for. Its hard to find the engine and transmission ina bus or pusher coach let alone actually work on it. After being raised in a family trucking businessand spending most of my childhood servicing and maintaining semi trucks,I decided to build a custom luxury motor coach using a real class 8 semitruck. After building a Powerhouse Coach in 1998 theresults and response from anyone who saw it were overwhelming. The Powerhouse Coach was not only safe and affordablebut was also capable of towing and stopping anything I wanted to put behindit. I was actually using less fuel in this coach than I had beenusing a Dodge pickup to pull my camp trailer and motorcycles let alone the unbelievable power stability and safety I gained. Over the next year after selling two luxury motorcoaches built for my personal use, I started selling custom luxury motorcoaches as a prime business. The auto body repair and towing service weresoon phased out to keep up with demand for custom luxury motor coaches. My crew and I take GREAT PRIDE and satisfactionin providing our customers with a very high quality one of a kind luxurymotor coach. Contact the coach owners who are now eagerly working as Powerhouse Coach factory representatives and talk to themabout the performance of their custom luxury motor coaches. Please take the time to explore the Powerhouseweb site. Compare the run of the mill coaches you already knowabout to the next generation in luxury motor coaches. Renting an rv to travel Alaska is often a great choice for those looking for added flexibility in their Alaska vacation, and those who want to "rough it" in style with most of the comforts of home. Whatever the case, more and more people are turning to Alaska rv rental companies to plan their perfect Alaska vacation. While many people drive their own rv to Alaska, a substantial number choose to rent their rv in Anchorage. There are over a dozen firms offering Alaska rv rentals in Anchorage, from 22 foot class C motorhomes to 30 foot class A motorhomes. The most popular rental model is the class C motorhome which are generally available in 22 foot to 31 foot lengths. Most rental rvs are fully self contained, meaning that in addition to beds and seating, expect a bathroom with toilet and shower, stove, refrigerator, kitchen sink, hot water heater and furnace. If you are renting from a top firm, expect your motorhome to be less than 3 years old. A 22-24 foot rv will work well for a couple, although the 25-27 foot models usually offer a full bed in the back. A 25-27 foot rv will also work well for a family with 1 or 2 children, but look towards a larger 28-31 foot motorhome for parties with 4 to 6 adults or larger families. Follow this link to see some typical class C motorhome floor plans . Start early if you plan to rent an rv in Alaska. Advance reservations are required and many companies are sold out by spring time. A deposit is generally required to rent an rv, and strict cancellation penalties are common. Some firms charge extra for mileage, kitchen set ups, bedding, insurance, dumping or cleaning, so make sure you ask about extra fees so you know the total cost of your rental. Expect to pay $165 to $225 per day for a nice, well equipped rv, depending on the rental company and motorhome size. Discounts are often available for May or September rentals. No special license is required to operate an rv in Alaska, and most rental companies give an orientation prior to your departure. There are a number of RV rental firms in Anchorage, and as with any major purchase it is important to pick a reputable one. AnRVIA - Media - Press Release: RV SHOWS HIGHLIGHT FAMILY TRAVEL OPTIONS RVIA Spokespersons Promote RV Travel on 2005 Media Tours Contact: Jim Lubinskas Public Relations Manager (703) 620-6003 ext. 347 jlubinskas@rvia.org -- -- RESTON, Va. – A contingent of colorful media spokespersons are hitting the road this spring and summer for Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) to promote the freedom, flexibility and value of RV travel . An integral part of RVIA’s public relations outreach, the 2005 media tours highlight the advantages of RV travel to various target buyers identified by industry research. For almost 15 years, RVIA has enlisted a diverse group of engaging spokespeople to bring the industry’s messages to local media across the country. These tours have reached more than 100 million households and garnered positive media exposure for the RV industry in all 48 contiguous states. RVIA spokespersons Brad and Amy Herzog, with their two toddler sons, are touring as the newly dubbed “See America” Family. The Herzogs’ new title comes from RVIA’s partnership with the Travel Industry Association of America and its domestic travel marketing program, See America. These Generation Xers kicked off their annual media tour i n February. The Herzogs are promoting RV travel as the best way to see America , while building awareness of the online See America Treasure Hunt Game and Sweepstakes. The Treasure Hunt encourages domestic travel through trivia questions about destinations, movies, famous Americans and historical sites. The Herzogs’ tour in a 39-foot 2005 Ty pe A motorhome, courtesy of Winnebago Industries of Forest City, Iowa, includes stops at 29 medium and major media markets . Veteran industry spokesperson David Woodworth launches his fourteenth consecutive annual “National RV History Tour” in March. An RV historian and travel expert, Woodworth will cover almost 30 midsize to major media markets in a 42-foot, 2005 Type A motorhome supplied by Monaco Coach Corporation of Coburg, Ore. He’ll have his fully restored 1931 Mae West RV in tow as he promotes RV travel in broadcast and print interviews during his 60-day tour in 15 states. This “rolling museum” tour celebrates the evolution of recreation vehicles, an American travel mode that traces its roots back to the turn of the century. As owner of the largest collection of antique RVs in existence, Woodworth successfully conveys RV travel’s ageless appeal. “RVing has been so popular for so long because it fills one of the most basic human needs -- freedom,” says Woodworth. “From the early 1900s to the present, RVs have given people the ability to go wherever they want, whenever they want.” New to the RVIA media spokesperson team this year is acclaimed mystery writer and RV enthusiast Sue Henry. Henry will travel in a Winnebago Ty pe C motorhome for her “Mystery on Wheels” tour from May through June to coincide with the paperback release of her latest work, Serpent’s Trail . The same Winnebago motorhome appears on the cover of the book, available in bookstores nationwide. Henry, who hails from Alaska , has won several prestigious literary awards, and her first book, Murder on the Iditarod Trail , sold over a million copies and was made into a TV movie. Serpent’s Trail features RV adventurer Maxie McNabb, who travels in her motorhome to Colorado to solve a mystery. For high-resolution photos of the RVIA spokespersons and their RVs, go to http://www.RVIA.org/2005spokespersons.htm . RVIA (rvia.org) is the national association representing more than 550 manufacturers and component suppliers producing approximately 98 percent of all RVs made in the United States.
