YOUR SEPARATE STRUCTURES on your residence premises, other than for business purposes, such as a detached garage or tool shed, are covered up to 10% of the amount of coverage on your mobile home. Optional higher limits are available. Personal Property Covers personal property owned or used by a qualified family member anywhere in the world. ON PREMISES pays up to 50% of the amount of coverage on your mobile home anywhere else in the world. If your personal property is located at a secondary residence, such as a cabin or vacation home, pays up to $1,000 or 10% of the On Premises coverage, whichever is greater. While your mobile home is covered for most types of damages, your Personal Property is covered only for damages resulting from the following: Fire or Lightning Windstorm or Hail Explosion Riot or Civil Commotion Falling Objects or Aircraft Vehicles Smoke Damage Vandalism and Malicious Mischief Theft Weight of Ice, Snow or Sleet Water or Steam accidentally discharged from plumbing system or appliances Damage resulting from bulging, cracking, rupture and burning of steam or hot water heating systems and water heaters Electrical Damage to appliances and fixtures (but not tubes or transistors) Freezing of plumbing, heating, air conditioning system, appliances This is not a policy contract but a general description. The policy itself should be read for the overages and exclusions. Additional Coverage TREES, SHRUBS, PLANTS AND LAWNS pays up to an additional 5% of the amount of coverage on your mobile home and no more than $500 per items for a loss by Fire or Lightning, Explosion, Riot or Civil Commotion, Aircraft, Vehicles not owned or operated by a family member, Vandalism or Malicious Mischief and Theft. LOSS OR USE if you cant live in your mobile home after a covered loss, we cover the additional cost of living in hotels, meals, etc. Pays up to 20% of the amount of insurance on your mobile home as an additional coverage with no deductible. Family Liability Protection Pays for bodily injuries to other people, or damage to their property, if you are liable, resulting from: The acts of your pets. The personal acts of you and qualified family members, including activities such as sports, hunting or fishing. The Medical Payments for other people injured on your premises, regardless or liability. Additional Liability Coverage EXPENSES pays expenses in a suit we defend on your behalf, such as court costs, attorney fees, investigator fees, expense of witnesses and witness fees. Also pays expenses you incur at Farmers request, including up to $60 a day for actual loss of wages. Pays the premium on appeal bonds, bonds to release attachments, and the cost of bail bonds. EMERGENCY FIRST AID pays expenses you incur for necessary medical and surgical aid to other people at the time of an accident youre involved in. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY OF OTHERS pays up to $500 for damage to property of others caused by a qualified family member where you are not legally liable OPTIONAL COVERAGE Personal Articles Floater: Extends protection for your personal articles when their value is higher than the limits stated in the policy. 1978 Santa Barbara Earthquake: Mobile Homes and Earthquakes The 1978 Santa Barbara Earthquake: Mobile Homes and Earthquakes A typical wood frame house of modern construction is securely bolted to its foundation. Mobile homes, on the other hand, simply sit on pedestals or stands, making them particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. During the 1978 earthquake 324 mobile homes were damaged in Goleta. Many of these mobile homes were knocked from their pedestals, rupturing gas, water, and electrical connections. In the Santa Barbara West Mobile Home Park in Winchester Canyon, over 35% of 147 mobile homes were knocked off their pedestals. Many of the pedestals ended up sticking through the floors of the mobile homes. One mobile home was destroyed by fire in a gas leak. In contrast, conventional homes in Goleta were relatively unscathed, suffering only cracked plaster, broken glass, and loosened plumbing. In a 1980 study by Steinbrugge et al., it was found that in high intensity earthquakes mobile homes suffer damage double wood frame houses, and in moderate intensity earthquakes, the difference is even greater, mobile homes suffering damage at a rate of five times a wood frame houses. Habitat for Humanity International’s RV Care-A-Vanner program offers anyone who travels in a recreational vehicle the opportunity to make a difference — and have fun while doing it — by helping build houses with families in need. The RV Care-A-Vanner program welcomes people of all ages and from all walks of life who are ready to pick up a hammer and help change lives. No Experience Necessary Every RV Care-A-Vanner building project is a unique and rewarding experience. Previous RV Care-A-Vanner teams have participated in house construction, roofing, interior and finish work, renovations and disaster relief. Those who prefer to be non-builders volunteer in the affiliate office or as “go fors” around the build site. There are ample opportunities to learn and plenty of meaningful work for everyone — no experience necessary. RV Care-A-Vanner builds normally involve eight to 20 RVing volunteers and last two weeks, with ten six- to seven-hour workdays. A typical day begins with devotions and includes morning, lunch and afternoon breaks. Volunteers bring sturdy work shoes and gloves, and their personal hand tools -- tool belt, hammer, square, pencil, measuring tape. The affiliate provides everything else including power tools, ladders, building materials, instruction and supervision. A volunteer leader handles the organization and administration of the team. Team members pay their own expenses, which may be tax deductible, and the host affiliate arranges for RV parking — usually free or at a nominal charge. Teams can expect at least minimal electric hookups, access to water and a dump station nearby. Hosting affiliates often also provide lunches and a welcome gathering. Due to safety and hygiene issues, pets are not permitted on the work site. Aside from the opportunity to use existing construction skills and learn new ones, RV Care-A-Vanner teams experience God’s love in action firsthand. Lasting friendships develop as the group parks together, builds together, eats together and socializes. In addition, the team often has the opportunity to work alongside local volunteers and future homeowners — a truly unforgettable experience. Many team members partner with Habitat affiliates around the country to promote awareness of poverty housing and homelessness by speaking to churches, civic groups and local media. Individual Care-A-Vanners often make financial contributions to the host affiliate and houses built by RV groups are sometimes funded through fund raising and donations from the members. RV Care-A-Vanners are encouraged to help defray the cost of the program by donating on line.
