Manufactured Housing Institute left Print Version Business and Operations Resources for Manufactured Home Sales Centers FTC Publishes Rule on Disposal of Consumer Information This rule affects any industry company that requests credit reports on their customers, including retailers, communities, and lenders. The rule is effective on June 1, 2005. The rule implements requirements contained in the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 (FACT Act) which requires that persons who possess or maintain, for a business purpose, consumer information derived from consumer reports, properly dispose of the information. The purpose is to take reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access to, or use of, the information when it is disposed of. FTC Safeguards Rule -- The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB) requires financial institutions that collect personal financial information from their customers to safeguard that information. Program Information This is a 60-hour course with 48 hours theory and 12 hours practical. The course is offered as required by industry, and delivered using the Internet as a distance delivery method. The 48 hours of theory is usually delivered twice a week for 3 hours in evenings. The 12 hours practical requires the technician to travel to Kelowna for one weekend.
