Our latest adventure involved a motorhome and trailer, both packed full of ATV goodies, including new gear, electronics, security locks, and, of course, the coolest sport quads. We told you all about the sport quads in the last issue (and were still arguing about which is the best sand duner Banshee, DS650, or 400EX). This time, well give you the report on all the essential road trip items, regardless of the make and model of your ATV. First, The Wheels Trucks and trailers are awesome. Motor homes and trailers are awesome-er. This year for our annual Glamis extravaganza, we rented a motorhome and trailer combination. We searched the WWW for RV rentals in Southern California, and found several options. We decided on RV Central in Montclair , Calif ornia, ( 909-613-0562 ) rents a variety of motorhomes, from the economical 22-foot Rialta to the luxurious 37-foot Winnebago. We opted for the 26-foot Class C Jamboree, which runs on a Ford chassis and is powered by a Ford Super Duty V-10. This hotel on wheels gave our four-rider test group almost enough room. With a queen bed in back, a cab-over bed up front, and a dining table that converts to a sleeper, there is enough room for three adults in comfort. With all our gear, food, and extra stuff, we had to do some creative packing, but it all worked well. There was plenty of room for cooking, eating and relaxing by day after changing the center bed back into a table. Besides, you dont spend much time inside this unit in the daytime. The Class C RVs usually have more sleeping room than the more luxurious Class A homes. And the Class C units are less expensive to rent. Even if there were hotels near the Glamis sand dunes, wed pay much more to rent a car and hotel rooms than we did to rent this RV and flat-bed trailer. For any kind of camping outing (if you can call this camping), an RV is often the most affordable, and certainly the most convenient, option available. If you live in Southern California, or can find some ATVs to rent, RV Central will quickly set you up with the right motorhome for your trip. Or, fly into L.A. (theyll even pick you up at the airport!), and cruise your rental RV up to the Pismo Beach Dunes in central California and rent quads right on the beach. The MMH & RVCA offers a wide variety of servicesto aid you in the operation of your business and save you money as well.Services include legal counsel and legislative advocacy ,and governmental relations , in-house public relationsprograms, liability insurance and a clearinghouse of information wheremembers can obtain a wide variety of general and technical publications.The MMH & RVCA is comprised of two divisional organizations (MMHA andMARVAC), with each serving their specific industry's needs. MMHA and MARVAChave separate board of directors that represent their respective industries.An executive board, made up of four representatives from each of the twodivisional boards, governs the association. Our Mission Through legislation, education, marketing and public awareness, MARVAC works to improve the business climate for its members and to encourage growth in the recreation vehicle and private campground industries while contributing to the quality of Michigan tourism. Communication-Publications and Seminars One of the most important features of MARVAC is its ability to communicateinformation to its members quickly! The industry offers a newspaper, calledthe Communicator , which keeps each member informedabout legislation, changes in laws and government regulations, and currenttrends in the industry. The newspaper also lists activities and eventswhich are important to manufacturers, dealers, campground owners and servicecompanies. In addition to the newspaper, MARVAC keeps its members postedregarding important information that affects their business and industrythrough timely, special bulletins. Continuing education for members is a major priority of the association.Dealer, campground and service seminars have been highly successful atkeeping our members informed. Through our seminars, members from all segmentsof the industry are kept up-to-date about new business procedures, legaland legislative issues, and governmental regulations that could affecttheir business and the industry. These seminars offer intense learningopportunities for members who are interested in sharpening their skills,and provides members with an opportunity to share information with industryexperts. Annual Outings and Public Shows MARVAC's annual outing combines a full range of seminars and workshopswith social activities. The event provides members with an opportunityto discuss common problems and exchange ideas with industry associates.This event serves as a culmination point for the year as the association'sofficers are welcomed for the new term. MARVAC's camper & RV shows are among themost heavily attended shows in Michigan with shows in Novi (2), BattleCreek, Port Huron, Flint and Traverse City. Over 200,000 campers and potentialRV buyers attend MARVAC shows each year. MARVAC also hosts an annual spring and fall golf outing, with the proceedsbenefitting the HARVEST Education Foundation. HARVEST Education Foundation and "The Great Wall ofTiles" HARVEST is a non-profit education foundation created by the association.Its purpose is to establish educational programs and opportunities forindividuals who wish to make a career in the recreation vehicle and campgroundindustry, or simply receive scholarship help because they are a familymember of the association The association office and conference center is home to "The Great Wall," a mosaic of handsome, commemorative tiles dedicated to honoring those who have contributed to our cause of furthering education in our combined industries.
